Okay, here's the deal. A couple of weeks ago I went to my first writing conference. Awesome. It was the Pikes Peak Writer's Conference in Colorado Springs. Colorado. Incredible... plus I had the added bonus of hanging out with my granddaughter. I pitched my book to an editor and she asked for the entire manuscript. I have to thank the writers I had lunch with on Friday for their powerful insight, and for giving me the words and confidence to pull that off. I still plan on self-publishing and have set my target date for releasing my novel in October.
Here is how I sold the book...
Genre - Paranormal Political Fiction/Thriller
Logline (Basically a synopsis of my book in 25 words or less) - "An idealistic Special Agent discovers he needs to find his faith to battle his former mentor for the soul of the United States." I have to come clean and let you know a guy named Michael I met at the conference did most of the work on this logline. Again, thank you. I told him it sounds like a book I'd like to read.
Summary - The main character, Lazarus Parker, has just finished high school and gets involved with a down and out Congressman who is running again to get his seat back. After he wins reelection by literally selling his soul to the devil he manipulates his way into the presidency. Lazarus gets trained as a Special Agent that helps the government weed out homegrown terrorist. After having some reservations about what he really is doing he discovers that his mentor, the Congressman (Forrest Vance), is not the man he thought he was. In fact, he's the worst case scenario for the country Lazarus loves so much. This discovery is crushing to Lazarus. He also learns his mentor murdered his mother and father. Faced with a decision that would lead him down a dark path; Lazarus just walks away. Vance begins to haunt him and refuses to kill him finding pleasure in the torture of letting him live. Meanwhile, a resistance has begun among the people. Lazarus feels it would only be trading one type of evil for another to join it. But a voice on the radio changes all that. Lazarus is forced back into the fight. There are some who feel he is the answer; the man who should lead the rebellion. Others find his past working for Vance disturbing. Lazarus must battle his own demons in hope of finding what he truly believes in. Is Lazarus up to the task? Can he discover the answer to battle evil? Now, originally the title of my book was Welcome to Utopia. It no longer fits. I would like your help naming it. Please send in your suggestions to freedom@anthonydflores.com
If I get enough titles I will have a vote for the ones I like the most. I'm stuck and need your help. The winner will get a free copy of my book.
