To Finish What I Started

The time has come for me to finish the novel I have been writing for, well, years. I have decided to dedicate this summer to finishing what I started. This blog will take the reader through the process I go through to finish the job. I will share all the ups and downs. You will discover how I find myself surfing the internet for longer than I want to admit calling it “research.” I plan on being open and honest about the feelings I  experience. Bottom line, I want to be entertaining so you will buy my book at the end of this. This blog will be more of a pouring out of frustration (I hope to be funny here), excitement (I won’t give away the novel but I will share some of it here), and hating myself for publicly telling each and every one of you that I will finish this thing – period!

The reality of what I want to do is entertain you for the next few months only to get your money so I can entertain you again. I know, I know, please, don’t thank me for all this “entertainment,” it’s my pleasure.

My first post here includes a picture of the workstation I just finished setting up. I will be sharing with you pictures of this workstation as it goes through the transformation (really a big word for the mess I will be making) during the writing of this book. Other pictures may include the cover design, my author bio picture (thank God I don’t look like… I better not say but I love his books!), and anything else that may come to mind as the summer progresses on.

Starting on Tuesday I plan on writing 1000 words a day minimum and 500 words on the weekends. I will work in the morning starting at 7:30 am. I decided on a words per day goal since claiming I will write for 3 or 4 hours will probably consist of checking my email online about fourteen times per hour followed by checking the latest news (sports, politics, religion, dog saving drowning child, girl meets boy, boy meets girl, and so on) followed by reading whatever book looks good after downloading it to my Kindle fire. I plan on updating you on my progress once or twice a week. My next blog will be next Friday, maybe sooner, but I will share with you what the first week looked like.

The title of my novel is, “Welcome to Utopia.” The story takes place in the future in a dystopian world. The main character has struggled for years with the situation surrounding the death of his parents, the totalitarian government that controls everyone, and how he has given up on life itself. A woman filled with a passion to return the country to freedom starts a spark in Lazarus Parker, our hero. Does that spark ignite within or just flame out?

I have been working on this story for over 3 years. I hope you enjoy reading about how a work of fiction goes from an idea to a reality. My plan is to use this platform to get people excited about buying my book when I publish it. I want to share what I have to say. I once read that fiction writers lie to uncover the truth. I hope that, once finished, you will buy my book, read it, and discover a truth about yourself, about life, or simply just smile because I was able to tell a good tale.

Peace and God Bless!
